Texas Woman Saves Young Boy

Courtney Best, an employee of the Hamlin shopping center in Texas, helped police track down a suspect vehicle and save an abducted child from its driver.

Last Wednesday, during her lunch break, Best decided to smoke out of the front of the shopping center, by the parking lot. She told the news team that as she stepped outside, a white car pulled up and simultaneously “ I looked down and I saw 'white Dodge Avenger amber alert,’”. Courtney didn't believe this could be the same vehicle at the time, mainly due to the distance from the alert to her location.

After her doubt, she made eye contact with the driver and her intuition started to kick in “my stomach started knotting” Courtney tells the camera how the man was looking at her, being the only other person outside, and she noticed that the little boy with him looked very frightened. After this feeling, Best knew she had to do something and decided to go and check the car's license plate.

She was discreet and drove past the suspected vehicle after they had returned and there it was, the same license plates as warned in the Amber alert news. Best immediately dialed 911 and told the operator, “Look, the plates match up”.
Courtney informed 911 of the direction the suspect was heading, but feeling it was her duty, started to follow him. Being empowered to individually assist the police, Best's quick thinking allowed the units from Corpus Christi Police Department to get ready to capture the suspect. Later named Channing Galbraith, the suspect was booked into the city detention center and is awaiting trial on kidnapping charges.

The abducted boy, a 7-year old named Nicholas Gomez, is thankfully, now at home safe with his family.

Best reflects on the situation with surprise at the odds of being in the right place at the right time, and taking a moment to notice Amber alert. Yet, due to luck or not, it was the fast actions and thinking of Best that potentially saved the life of Nicholas Gomez.
