Teen Shoots At Cop, Didn't Realize The Huge Mistake He'd Just Made

Apparently, there is a very real reason that they call an officer’s badge a shield. This was literally true for one California police officer. According to Inside Edition, a Southern California officer’s police badge is the very thing that saved his life.

The officer was responding to a domestic dispute in Huntington Beach when he was shot in the chest. The shooting occurred after a male suspect was reportedly fleeing in his car when police began to pursue him.

The suspect had police engaged in a high speed chase when he made a U-turn then started to shoot several rounds of bullets at the officers. One of those rounds went right through the windshield of the officer’s car and struck him right in the chest. Luckily, his badge stopped the bullet from killing him.

Eventually, police lost sight of the suspect and they had to get a helicopter out to find him. He eventually veered off the road and crashed his car, which went up in flames.

The suspect died in the fire, and the officer who was shot sustained non life threatening injuries. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the Huntington Beach Police Department’s officer-involved shooting. The OCSD’s investigation is ongoing.
