Teen Panhandler's Sign Shocks Drivers (PHOTOS)

A teen in Lowell, Massachusetts is standing on the side of the road with a sign in hopes of raising some money. She's not homeless, but she is trying to plan ahead. The teen wants to raise enough money to pay her college tuition and hopes to go to medical school.

Emily Stutz is a high school senior who is determined to succeed. With a 4.0 average, she knows she's going to get into college. She's just not sure how she's going to pay for it. The financial aid she’s been offered just doesn’t cover the costs. She's reaching out to the public in hopes that people will help.

The teen stands at the side of the road with a sign reading, "H.S. Senior No $ for college Anything Helps." She's also started an online fundraiser to help her meet her tuition needs.

“My parents have had immense financial struggles and simply cannot come up with $20,000-$30,000 a year, nor are they able to cosign a loan for me,” says Stutz on her fundraising page. “I have no other adults in my life who are able to cosign and I am at a loss. I see my dream of becoming a doctor slip further and further away as the days pass by so I’ve decided I am going to do whatever it will take to get myself to college.”

Stutz feels that people willing to help the homeless might be willing to help an aspiring doctor. “Anything helps at this point!” she says.

“As an old Tanzanian proverb says, ‘Little by little, a little becomes a lot,’” said Stutz.
