Teen Girl Awakes From Nap In Bus To Discover Nightmare Was Real

A girls’ softball team from North Central Texas College were heading home from a game when there was a horrific crash. One survivor recalls that she had dozed off peacefully on the bus, but woke up to the chaotic crash scene.

When Bailey was sleeping, she missed the 18-wheeler truck coming from the opposite direction crossing the center lines and plowing into the bus. Four of her teammates were killed.

“I saw the girls laying outside the bus,” said Bailey to Liftbump.

Baily was still on the bus. She had a broken pelvis and other injuries. The young student didn't know what to make of the scene.

"I was thinking about the other girls,” she says. “And then I was like ‘Oh my gosh, I should call my parents to tell them what happened.’ I was in shock.”

At that point, Bailey managed to get up and crawl to the exit door. Her head coach and some Good Samaritans who had stopped to lend a hand helped to pull her to safety.

Bailey's mind was focused on her parents at that point. “Someone else came over, a girl, I don’t know who she was,” Bailey says. “I asked her if she had a phone and she said ‘yes, one second.’ I gave her my mom’s number, but she didn’t answer. So I tried my dad, and he answered. The woman held the phone up to [my] ear so I could talk to him.”

After several surgeries and rehabilitation, Bailey is getting back to 'normal.' But she doesn't feel she's completely there yet.

“I’ve been waiting for the moment that I get back on the active softball roster and actually step out on the field for a game. That’s where I will be able to tell myself, ‘You made it. You did it. You accomplished so much. You beat all the odds.’ I’ll be back to being me. I’ll be healed.”
