Teen Decides To Follow Kaepernick's Lead, Kneels During The National Anthem - Shocked By School's Response

A student in Massachusetts was suspended by his coaches and principal after he kneeled in protest for the national anthem. After reconsidering the case, the school district lifted the suspension and is supporting the student.

Mike Oppong, a student at Doherty High School in Worcester, decided when the season started that he was going to protest the national anthem. As so many NFL stars have been doing lately, when the anthem began, Oppong knelt down on the ground. He refused to stand or place his hand over his heart to honor those who have died defending the country.

Oppong isn't the only high school football player who decided to take a stand by kneeling this year. Across the country, more and more students have been participating in the protest. But Oppong got a reaction that other students have apparently not had to deal with: he was suspended after the game.

"My coaches and principals have decided to suspend me for 1 game," Oppong tweeted, sending social media into an uproar.

After further thought, the school superintendent Maureen Binieda said the suspension was lifted. “The Doherty student did not violate any school rule when he peacefully and silently protested during the National Anthem,” said a statement put out by Binieda. “He exercised his Constitutional Rights without disturbing the school assembly and he is not being disciplined by his actions."

"Thanks to all your love and support my suspension of 1 game has been terminated!" Oppong tweeted after getting the news.
