Teacher Was Suspended For Calling A Transgendered Boy A 'Girl' - Now Suing The School

It's becoming more and more common for children to suffer from gender identity confusion. To help transgendered students sort it out, many schools are instituting policies that are sympathetic to the situation.

Unfortunately, one teacher slipped up and lost his job over the mistake. He's now suing the school.

Joshua Sutcliffe, a 27-year-old teacher from the U.K., admits he called a transgendered boy a 'girl' in school one day. The transgendered teen boy was working with a female friend on a project. The teacher spotted them and said, "Well done, girls."

The transgendered boy became furious. The teacher was informed that he made a mistake and he apologized for it, and he thought the situation was resolved.

Six weeks later, the boy's mother got in contact with the school to complain about the incident. She demanded they do something about the situation. Sutcliffe was immediately suspended from working in the classroom while the school looked into the matter.

“I was absolutely shocked to be told by the head that I was under investigation. I didn’t know what was happening. It was surreal, Kafkaesque,” said Sutcliffe at the time. “I said it was only one incident for which I had apologized, but he insisted the investigation would go ahead.”

"Following the week-long investigation, the school found Mr. Sutcliffe to have 'misgendered' the pupil, 'demonstrating discriminatory behaviors’ and 'contravened the school’s equality policy'," said a statement from the Christian Legal Centre in defense of Sutcliffe.

According to the organization, Sutcliffe’s case is only one among many in which they’re getting involved. “This is one of a large number of cases we are encountering where teachers are finding themselves silenced or punished if they refuse to fall in line with the current transgender fad.”

Sutcliffe had worked at the school for two years. As a Christian and a pastor, he says he doesn’t think there is anything wrong with refusing to call a child by what he sees are the accurate pronouns: the pronouns that match the child’s biological gender at birth.

Although the educator disagrees with referring to children by their gender of choice, he said the mistake he made that day was unintentional. He says he’s a professional and would never do so on purpose at school.

He believes his human rights have been violated. “I had always tried to respect the pupil and keep a professional attitude as well as my integrity, but it seemed to me that the school was trying to force me to adhere to its liberal, Leftish agenda,” said Sutcliffe.

The former math teacher sent a letter to the school, calling their policies 'totalitarian'. He penned a letter to the school’s administration. "I regret that our relations have reached this point, but I feel I have no choice but to bring legal proceedings against you without further notice," Sutcliffe wrote.

The school refuses to comment due to pending legal proceedings.
