Teacher Asks Her Students A Simple Question, Can't Believe Their Response

A Colorado teacher gave her third graders a simple writing prompt. She was so stunned by the answers she got that she's asked other teachers to try it as well.

Kyle Schwartz, a teacher at Doull Elementary School in Denver, asked her kids to finish this sentence: "I wish my teacher knew..." Little did she realize the kind of responses she would get, and how it would change her life.

Schwartz urged other teachers to give the prompt to their students. She shares the responses anonymously at #iwishmyteacherknew. The responses have been going viral.

"I wish my teacher knew I don't have a friend to play with me," is one heartbreaking response.

"I wish my teacher knew that my mom might get diagnosed with cancer this week and I've been without a home 3 different times this year," said another.

"I wish my teacher knew that I don't do well under pressure. So I forget everything when I take a test or other things," one student said.

Schwartz was so inspired by the answers that were pouring in that she's written a book: "I Wish My Teacher Knew: How One Question Can Change Everything For Our Kids."
