Tattoo Shop Owner Accused Of Raping Client - Police Fear More Possible Victims

A bizarre rape case has stunned the city of Hesperia, California, and police are concerned that there may be additional victims of the alleged perpetrator that have yet to come forward. As KTLA shares, a 19-year-old woman claims she was raped by the owner of a local tattoo shop - while she was getting a tattoo.

The victim reported the alleged assault the following morning. She says that she had been sexually assaulted at Team Art Collective tattoo shop the previous day, and she identified the shop’s owner as the suspect. Police were quickly on the hunt for 43-year-old Henry Camarena.

“The victim, a 19-year-old female, was reporting she was sexually assaulted while receiving a tattoo from the suspect, Henry Camarena, owner of Team Art Collective Tattoo in Hesperia,” a report from the Hesperia Police Department reads in part. “After the initial report, the case was turned over to the Hesperia Detective Bureau for investigation.”

Things moved quickly from that point, as investigators headed down to the business - but there was still the matter of tracking down Camarena.

“A search warrant was served at the suspect's tattoo business, Team Art Collective Tattoo in Hesperia, where evidence was recovered corroborating the victim’s statements,” the report continued. “Based on the victim’s statements and evidence recovered during the search warrant, an arrest warrant was obtained for Camarena, who was believed to be out of the area.”

Luckily, investigators were able to track him down pretty quickly. They received word that he was staying in nearby Baldwin Park, and he was located without too much of a hassle.

“Detectives and members of the Hesperia Station Gang Team contacted Camarena at the Baldwin Park residence and was taken into custody without incident,” the report continued.

Camarena was booked into West Valley Detention Center on suspicion of rape of a drugged victim, and he’s currently being held on a $500,000 bond. It’s unclear how the victim was drugged, but there’s an incredibly disturbing line in the police report that indicates this investigation may just be beginning.

“Based on the circumstances surrounding this sexual assault, it is possible that there are additional victims,” the report says.

That opens up a ton of additional questions. What type of evidence was recovered at the tattoo shop? Was the victim under the influence when she arrived at the shop, or did she somehow get drugged at the shop?

Was the victim incapacitated in such a way that she couldn’t contact the authorities until the following day? Is Camarena a suspect in other reported assaults? How many other victims do the authorities believe there may be?

We’ll have to wait and see how the investigation plays out, but the entire city of Hesperia is on edge right about now, to say the least. Authorities have asked anyone with information on the suspect or the case to get in contact with them, so that leads you to believe that there’s some more smoke here.
