Steve Harvey Makes Shocking Claim About His Wife And Trump

As many of those with better halves will testify, sometimes spouses really do know best. In some cases, they’re not real shy about letting you know that either. It sounds like media host extraordinaire Steve Harvey is familiar with that concept. As Yahoo shares, Harvey is publicly lamenting a decision that he made earlier this year in spite of the advice he received from his beloved wife.

So what’s causing Harvey so much consternation? Earlier this year, he met with President Donald Trump during the transition phase at Trump Tower. While he seemed pleased with the meeting at the time and walked out feeling optimistic, his feelings changed once he started receiving backlash.

“I didn’t see that coming. Jesus. It was so vicious that it really threw me. I was being called names that I’ve never been called: Uncle Tom. A coon. A sellout,” he said. “My wife says, ’Steve, just take off [and skip the meeting]. You’ll meet with him some other time.' God, I should’ve listened.”

While it’s understandable that the backlash he received threw him for a loop, it’s unclear why Harvey felt the need to fold up like a card table at the first sign of trouble. If we contrast that with what he had to say after meeting with HUD secretary Ben Carson, it becomes all the more head scratching.

“We’re actually trying to get it started,” he said in regards to a project he’s been discussing with Carson. “Hopefully before the year goes out, we’ll be making the announcement about the first vision center.”

After his meeting with Trump, he released a statement indicating that he was intrigued by the possibilities that came to light.

“Our president (Obama) asked that all of us sit down and talk to one another in order to move our country forward...the transition teams on both sides asked me to meet and I’m glad I did. Trump wants to help with the situations on the inner cities so he immediately got Dr. Ben Carson on the phone to put us together to begin dialog in looking at programs and housing to help our inner cities and he’s very open to my mentoring efforts across the country,” the statement read. “I walked away feeling like I had just talked with a man who genuinely wants to make a difference in this area. I feel that something really great could come out of this...I would sit with him anytime.”

So what changed? In short, Harvey got called out by anti-Trump detractors, and he panicked. Again, there’s no doubt it was incredibly disturbing to find himself being subjected to attack. Then again, how seriously should anyone be taken when they feel the need to cross the line into personal attacks to make a political point?
Whether it was his intention or not, Harvey only increases the divide by cowering down at the first sign of backlash. Standing up and offering up a calming voice that suggested we should all give the new president a chance could’ve worked wonders. Instead, Harvey is standing around worrying about how meeting with the president to set the wheels in motion for real change led to him being called out.
