'Star Wars' Legend Mark Hamill Spotted In Wheelchair, But He Says All Is Well

There has been quite a bit of chatter about the health of actor Mark Hamill, best known for his portrayal of Luke Skywalker in the ‘Star Wars’ franchise.

Hamill was spotted at New York City’s JFK airport in a wheelchair while holding onto a small dog, and initial reports indicated that he looked unwell and struggled to get into a waiting vehicle. Alas, Hamill has confirmed that all is well in his world. So what in the heck is going on then?

As Metro shares, Hamill has taken to social media to put the scuttlebutt to rest. He says that he had some specific reasons for heading through the airport in a wheelchair, and it had absolutely nothing to do with any health issues.

“HA! Arriving 5AM I tried the old "wheelchair trick" JUST 2 avoid autograph $alesmen/Dealer$ who constantly badger me (& my family) 2 increase value of their items-All the better 2 gouge TRUE FANS later on Ebay,” he wrote.

That’s an interesting course of action on the part of Hamill, but such is life in the world of celebrities. We can only imagine that autograph seekers can get a little tiring after a while, and that’s exacerbated by the fact that many of those on the hunt for signatures are only doing so with profits in mind.

That’s especially true for Hamill, as there’s an absolutely huge collectible market revolving around the Star Wars franchise.

Speaking of that iconic series of movies, a new installment is scheduled to hit theaters on December 14, and anticipation is high. “Star Wars: The Last Jedi" continues the saga that began way back in 1977.

The series started off with a trilogy - Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi - that featured Hamill’s character, and also served as a launching pad for both Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, who played Han Solo and Princess Leia, respectively.

The franchise went on hiatus for a bit from that point, but then returned with a prequel series that was met with mixed reviews from those that were hoping for a continuation of the story with the characters they loved.

The latest film is a follow-up to 2015’s ‘Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens,’ and it’s noted as ‘the next chapter in the Skywalker saga.’ It’s probably safe to say that it will knock it out of the park on opening weekend, but we’ll have to wait for the reviews and sales to roll in before determining how it stands up to the franchise’s previous films.

In the meantime, there’s a ton of speculation going on about potential plot twists in the latest installment. Like many other popular movie franchises, Star Wars has a rather fanatical fan base that tends to pore over the details of the films that they love.

That’s also partially what led to such a row taking place over the state of Hamill’s health, and it’s good to see that all remains well in his world.
