Squatters Steal Veterans Home, Shocked When These Unexpected Visitors Knock On Front Door (PHOTOS)

U.S. Army Specialist Michael Sharkey was deployed to Afghanistan for almost two years, and now he’s having to fight a legal battle to get his home in Florida back from a pair of ex-cons who moved in while he was gone.

Sharkey and his wife currently reside in Wahiawa, Hawaii, where he is stationed, but the couple plan to return to New Port Richey, Florida, where they own a home, in late July.

That said, Sharkey’s plans to come back home have been complicated by two squatters that have moved into their house in the 6800 block of Westend Avenue.

According to Sharkey, they broke into his home, changed the locks and now refuse to leave.

Moreover, the Pasco County Sheriff's department have told the Sharkeys they have no legal grounds to evict the squatters.

Squatter Claims He Has Permission To Live In Home

The squatters have been identified as Julio Ortiz and his girlfriend, Fatima Cardoso, and they claim they have permission to be living in the house.

In an interview with a local TV station, Ortiz claimed he has permission to live in the Sharkeys' home because he made a verbal agreement with the friend who was looking after the house to make repairs to the place for rent-free housing for the duration of the project.

Sharkey dismissed the squatter’s claims as lies, and he was backed up by friend Lisa Pettus, who was responsible for the unfinished home while the family was stationed in Hawaii.

Pettus claims that Ortiz agreed to make repairs to the home with materials she had provided, but the deal did not include housing for the handyman or his girlfriend.
