Here is Why People Are Placing Soap in Their Backyard

At this time of year, your garden is probably beginning to flourish. You're not the only one who can't wait to taste that harvest, though. Animals in your neighborhood are probably lining up for a buffet dinner. Getting rid of deer, rabbits and other critters don't have to be expensive, or difficult. All you need is the right bar of soap.

Gardner’s are raving about the miracle pest repellant: Irish Spring soap. The soap is an inexpensive, eco-friendly and easy way to keep those animals at bay, away from your prized plants.

All you have to do is chop the soap bars into chunks, then spread the chunks around the perimeter of your garden. You can throw them directly on the ground, or suspend them from cloth pouches or old socks. Here’s what you will need:

- 12 bars of Irish Spring Soap
- 6 pouches or pieces of cheesecloth
- 6 wooden stakes which should be at least 2-3 feet tall from the ground
- Knife
- Staple gun
- Cut each bar of soap into small pieces with a knife
- Divide the soap pieces equally into the 6 mesh pouches
- Secure the pouches to the stakes using the staple gun
- Drive each stake into the ground surrounding the perimeter of your garden

You can also place extra bags of Irish Spring soap around your garden for extra protection. Deer have been seen eating plants within 3 feet of the soap, so it’s good to add the extra bags if you feel it is necessary.

The soap won't hurt the animals, your plants or your soil. The smell will keep the animals away, but you'll find your yard smelling pleasant and fresh.

In time you may have to replace the chunks as rain will slowly erode them away, but it won't be often. A few bars should last you for a whole season.
