Single Mother Of Two Gives Lottery Winnings To Homeless Man

Sofia Andrade is a single mother of two who won $200 from a scratch card in Wareham, Massachusetts. Naturally, that money could be put to good use for her and her kids, but she noticed something that touched her heart.

As temperatures dipped to -22 C, she saw homeless Glen Williams shaking in the cold. When temperatures are that cold, shelters fill up quickly. That was when Andrade decided exactly how she would spend the money.

To start, she bought Williams a hot cup of coffee, then paid for him to stay two nights at the Rosewood Motel. Williams was so touched that he started crying. After that, she set up a GoFundMe page to help him find a more permanent housing solution.

The page has since raised over $5,000. That means he will be staying another week at Rosewood, while Andrade figures out how to get him a more long-term solution. Williams had been homeless for three years.

Glen told WCBV, "I couldn't believe there's somebody like her. She deserves a lot of the credit for where I am right now." Andrade said, "I didn't do this to be a hero, I did this because everyone deserves to be treated with compassion no matter who they are."
