Singer Stuns Crowd Amidst National Anthem Controversy

If you made the NCAA's game between Virginia Tech and the University of Tennessee on Labor Day weekend, you might have found it a refreshing sight. Instead of protests against America and disrespect towards those who fight for it, the stadium made an inspiring display of patriotism.

The game, as football games go, was unremarkable. The score will be forgotten. In time, people might even have a hard time remembering the teams that played. But one thing that made it a memorable moment was the display of patriotism.

Before the game, country music star Jennifer Nettles took the stage on the field and belted out probably the best rendition of 'The Star-Spangled Banner' since Whitney Houston in 1991. The singer/songwriter sang the national anthem acapella, her beautiful voice ringing out through the stands where everyone stood with respect.

Nettles was accompanied by a color guard and a massive flag spread out over the field. The stands were decked with red, white and blue - colors held up by thousands of fans in a coordinated display. Red fireworks exploded as Nettles sang 'the rockets’ red glare,' and a fly-over at the conclusion of the song.

If anyone was kneeling or protesting, they weren't given any attention.
