Shocking Surprise Left Under Baby Jesus in a Nativity Scene

A home for orphans in Amarillo, Texas got a shocking surprise when they found a generous donation. The anonymous donor left the check tucked under the baby Jesus in the home's nativity display.

A receptionist at the Children's Home, a home that takes in at-risk orphans, got a strange phone call. The caller told her to go outside and check under the baby Jesus in the home's Christmas display.

The receptionist found probably the second-greatest gift of hope to ever be placed in a manger: a check for $50,000. The anonymous donor hadn't even bothered to come inside the home-- he (or she) just tucked the check where he knew it would be safe until someone went out to get it.

"As you can imagine, we were just taken aback," said Darrin Murphy, president of the Children's Home, to ABC7 News.

Murphy says the donation is a true blessing. "He said that one of the reasons he did it was that he gets to see our kids and he watches their interaction, how they treat each other and how they treat their house parents," said Murphy of the anonymous donor. "And he was inspired by them."

The Children's Home struggles for donations usually-- many donations come to them through panhandling. Not only will this generous donation help financially, but it's even more meaningful than just the necessary goods and services cash can buy.

"I told [the kids] that people are noticing you, people believe that you have what it takes and people believe in your future," said Murphy. "It was huge for them and they were very excited about that."
