She Kept It Secret From Him For 50 Years, Husband Finally Finds It In The Walls

Losing a loved one is always an incredibly difficult process. For loving married couples, becoming a widower can be even more unbearable. In a heartrending story from North Phoenix, Arizona, a 79-year-old widower, Bruce Klug, was contacted by people renovating his old home with a heart-warming surprise. In 1966, Mr. Klug had been enjoying a loving, trusting and blissful marriage with his wife, 33-year-old Betty Klug, in their home in North Phoenix. The home was constructed in the 1950’s but in 1966, Betty Klug decided to make a small addition to the house. On her husband’s birthday, Betty hid a time capsule, filled with notes, a letter and several family photographs, in the house.

Tragically, 10 years after secreting the time capsule in the family home, Betty passed away in a horrifying car accident, leaving Bruce alone in the world with no knowledge of the hidden time capsule.

Unable to live in the North Phoenix house after the loss of his beloved wife, Bruce decided to move and try and start anew, eventually moving to Scottsdale. However, in April 2014, Bruce received a phone call that would flip his world upside down. The new owners of his former home in North Phoenix had begun renovating and a construction crew member, John Murray, tasked with gutting the home had found the time capsule.

The elderly Bruce met with Mr. Murray in Scottsdale to give him the time capsule, telling NBC News that “It's been an awesome experience, for sure”. The time capsule reveals a whole new world with Betty’s notes and letter detailing the oddities of the time, writing:

“The Vietnam War is still going on…Racial situation very serious. Boys have long hair resulting from the Beatle craze…Lyndon Johnson is president. We are hopeful that the Republicans will be in office when this time capsule is recovered”.

Mr. Klug was amazed by the hidden time capsule and was allegedly quite emotional after reading the letter and seeing pictures of his wife after all these years. In cases like these, the love and connection of Betty and Bruce’s marriage has truly withstood the test of time.
