Senior Citizen Horribly Mistreated by Whole Foods Market in New Jersey

At a Whole Foods Market in Maplewood, New Jersey, 70-year-old Marge Dooley bought $60 worth of groceries at the Millburn-Union location on October 4.

She forgot some cheese in her cart, that was tucked under her purse. So, the senior citizen was apprehended by security in the back of the store, while undergoing a background check. She has no criminal record. After that, Dooley was banned from all Whole Foods stores in the tri-state area under threat of trespassing charges.

She asked if she could still buy the cheese, and wasn't allowed to do so. Her daughter, Margaret Nolan, decided to post about the outrageous incident on Facebook. Soon, many customers declared they would never shop at Whole Foods again. As a result, Whole Foods Market removed and replaced the security company that detained Dooley.

Michael Sinatra, public relations & public affairs director for Whole Foods Market told The Village Green NJ, “Loss prevention is an unfortunate necessity in retail. This is an unfortunate incident and we have reached out to the shopper directly to make things right. We are also having discussions with the loss prevention company at this store to ensure they clearly understand our expectations when it comes to our customers.”

Nolan said she won't shop at Whole Foods Market again.
