Scott Baio & Wife In Hot Water Over What She Said To Sandy Hook Victim's Mom

Scott Baio and his wife, Renee Baio, are under fire for their comments about the Sandy Hook massacre and Charlottesville white supremacist rally. In particular, Renee has been slammed for writing an unbelievably cruel message to a family member of a victim of the Sandy Hook massacre.

The family member in question was Nelba Marquez-Greene, the mother of 6-year-old Ana Grace, who slammed Renee when the Happy Days star used Twitter to retweet a meme which implied that the Sandy Hook shootings were faked. Baio took the criticism to heart and responded: “I'm sorry 4 your loss @Nelba_MG however, maybe your children are in a better place. Your ugliness knows no bounds!!”

Ms. Marquez-Greene would later tell the Daily Mail that Baio’s comments made her “literally throw up in the parking lot of a Big Y.” The meme that kicked off the Twitter storm claimed that the Sandy Hook Massacre and Charlottesville violence were some sort of government cover-up. The offensive image displayed side-by-side pictures of Donna Soto, the mother of a murdered teacher from Sandy Hook Elementary School, and Susan Bro, the grieving mother of Heather Heyer, a protestor who was killed in Charlottesville.

After retweeting the meme, Baio wrote: “Thoughts” to imply that Ms. Soto and Ms. Bro are the same person. In her reply, Ms. Marque-Greene referenced Mr. Baio’s character from Happy Days, Chachi, retorting, “I guess Chachi > the real @ScottBaio. We love you @TeamVickiSoto- so sorry this happened to your mom. #ThursdayThoughts #Newtown #Grief.”

With the parents of the Sandy Hook massacre dealing with constant criticism and blame from conspiracy theorists, Ms. Marquez-Greene later tweeted that Mr. Baio had blocked her on Twitter for her comment and concluded that “We [the families of Sandy Hook massacre victims] have more courage in one pinkie.”

Mr. Baio has since apologized for the controversial tweet and has stated he regrets retweeting the meme. Mr. Baio’s wife, Renee, is adamant that her husband was in the right, prompting Ms. Marquez-Greene to further highlight how insensitive her comments were. “Sure hope no one makes fun of you or suggests you’re acting,” Ms. Marquez-Greene began. “Instead? I will say god bless you and best wishes for a speedy recovery.”

While Ms. Baio initially commented on Ms. Marquez-Greene’s final remark, the tweet has since been removed and Ms. Baio’s account made private. From looking at the still very public response from Ms. Marquez-Greene, it is possible to get an idea of what was said:
“I was clear. I wished you a speedy recovery. I believe what you wrote is what we call in the field of ‘projection’. Good try though, boo. And for a mom to suggest to another that her children are better off dead? Girl, don’t pray for me. Don’t come for me. Pray for yourself.”

Other Twitter users were quick to defend Ms. Marquez-Greene, with user Superman_561 concluding: “After seeing what @Scott Baio and @MrsScottBaio said to a mother who lost their child to violent incident, they are the lowest form of scum.”
