School Gives Shocking Reason For Forcing Girl To Remove Her Wig

Parents all across the globe send their children off to school each day with the general hope that the educators they entrust their children with will look out for the best interests of their child. In special circumstances such as those centering around a health issue, fingers remain crossed even more so. As the Daily Mail reports, this mom realized that all the hope in the world wasn’t going to make her child’s teachers make the right call.

Lianne Corbett sent her daughter off to school at Broad Oak Community Primary School in St. Helens in the UK, but the child came home awfully upset. Her daughter, April, suffers from alopecia, and she has several bald patches on her head as a result. Lianne has provided her child with a wig that helps her feel much better about things, but her teachers ordered her to remove. Their reasoning? The wig “breached health and safety rules.” Lianne was not pleased.

“They were trying to tell me that April was more than happy to take it off. But when she came home she said she was really sad because she didn't want people to see her hair. She was so pleased when she had the wig on. She had the biggest smile on her face,” she explains.

Lianne suffers from the condition as well, and she became aware that her daughter was being targeted by bullies due to her appearance. That prompted her to send April in wearing a hat, but that also ran afoul of what the teachers felt was appropriate. Lianne moved onto a wig and even explained the situation, but it still fell on deaf ears. She’s besides herself at this point, but the school keeps inexplicably pointing out that it’s “not school uniform.”

“They kept saying they have kids with cancer in the school and deal with situations like this all the time,” Lianne continued.

It certainly sounds like the teachers at this school could use a little learning up themselves when it comes to compassion.
