School Demands To Know Why Boy Is Absent - Dad Gives Priceless Answer

Education is a serious business, and schools have to make sure that each student is in class, or they have to have a reason why they're not. Keeping parents accountable is part of the job, so when one high school child didn't show up one day, the school contacted his father for answers.

They were pretty shocked by the response.

James Morgan, a 15-year-old student at the Stanwell School, in Penarth, South Wales, did not show up for class on March 3. Thanks to modern technology, it's easy for schools to contact parents quickly and to hold mom and dad accountable for their child's whereabouts on a school day.

A staff member at the school texted Simon Morgan, James' 44-year-old dad. "James Morgan was absent from AM registration. Please can you TEXT a reply with the reason for this absence. Thanks Stanwell School," the text read.

Dad texted back a funny photo showing exactly why James couldn't make it that morning. Mr. Morgan sent the school a photo of his son standing on a beach in front of a famous landmark in Dubai.

The family had gotten a sudden an unexpected opportunity to stay at the luxurious hotel Burj Al'arab.

Needless to say, the school administrators were not very happy about the absence excuse, but with James being a thousand miles away, there was little they could do. But considering the source, they were probably not surprised.

Simon Morgan is known for being quite a prankster and funny man, and has tried the patience of the school staff before. Once when James was late, the school contacted him and he promised to keep his son in a cardboard box outside the school and to feed him Gruel to make sure it never happened again.

In another incident when James was late, Simon blamed hippos. In yet another instance when James was sick, Simon told the school he kept his son home so the child wouldn't 'sh-t his pants' in the classroom.

The school may not be happy with Simon and his antics, but Simon says it's all in good fun. He's actually a strict father and James is doing very well in school, he just likes to joke around sometimes.

"We only found out about the holiday the day before as it was through the travel agency that we run, so we genuinely didn't have time to plan," the dad told The Mirror. "I know I should have told the school beforehand but if you ask on things like this unfortunately they often say they don't approve of it, so I took a gamble. They didn't reply to the text so I think it paid off."

"James is doing very well, is on target for excellent GCSE results and misses very few days so I knew it was not going to negatively affect his work," Simon added. "When I got the message I decided to send the picture because I think a picture tells a thousand words. I think from the photo it was then quite apparent where he was. It was light-hearted banter, though admittedly it's not the first time I have done it. James obviously thought it was fantastic and all of his friends loved it too."

Simon has earned the highly coveted title of 'cool dad' among James' friends. "Everyone takes it in good humor. One of the teachers even high fived me once when they heard about his latest prank," said James. "Most of his pranks go down well... but I think the picture of me in Dubai is the best one yet. It's very funny. As soon as he sent that one in, I knew he had done something as my phone started going crazy with friends telling me how word had got round at school. Everyone thinks he's hilarious."
