Sailor Returns Home - Finds Out That Family's About To Have A New Addition

A Facebook video has gone viral after the story of Natasha and Chris Daugherty warmed the hearts of thousands. After spending six months deployed aboard the USS Carl Vinson, Mr. Daugherty was finally able to return home to his wife, Natasha, and their three children, a 10-year-old son, a 4-year-old daughter and an 18-month-old toddler. However, what was waiting for him on shore left him shocked.

When Petty Officer 1st Class Chris Daugherty docked in San Diego after 6 months’ deployment, he never expected to be welcoming another member to his family. Completely unsuspecting, Mr. Daugherty rushed to greet and embrace his three children, who were all dressed in sailor’s outfits to welcome their father home. Mrs. Daugherty made sure to stay back and hide her huge, 8-month pregnant stomach behind a large poster. The poster, which read ‘Welcome Home Baby Daddy,’ was quickly moved away in order to reveal her husband’s welcome-home surprise.

Mr. Daugherty was in complete disbelief, poking his wife’s belly and asking, “is it real?” Mrs. Daugherty was all smiles as she donned a shirt with the words “I am the present my daddy gave my mommy before he deployed,” written across the belly. Finally convinced that he was to welcome another baby girl into their family, Mr. Daugherty eagerly embraced and kissed his wife.

The family from Temecula later posted the video to Facebook, which was filmed by a family friend. The video, captioned by Mrs. Daugherty, read “Here it is! The moment he sees the baby bump. He’s so confused and in disbelief, asked if it was real and poked the belly.” Mr. Daugherty also went on to post a heartfelt message to his Facebook, stating “[I] wanted to say thanks to my amazing wife Natasha for the awesome homecoming weekend she planned. I couldn’t have asked for a better one, and it was great news finding out we will be welcoming a new baby girl soon.”

Mrs. Daugherty revealed that It wasn’t easy keeping the pregnancy a secret from her husband, confessing that “as soon as [America] started having trouble with North Korea, [she] became worried.” Mrs. Daugherty was particularly concerned about her husband’s safety after his deployment, along with other service members in a strike group dispatched to patrol the Korean Peninsula, was extended for thirty days in response to dictator Kim Jong-Un’s ballistic missile testing.

After the extension of his deployment was announced, Mr. Daugherty sent an email to his wife telling her how much he loves her in case he was injured or killed in action during the following days. Mrs. Daugherty said she “was extremely emotional,” and “wanted to tell him” about the pregnancy, however, she managed to hold off long enough for her husband to make it home.

Mrs. Daugherty went on to confess that it was more of a challenge to make sure her 4-year-old daughter didn’t reveal the big surprise while she would talk to Mr. Daugherty on the phone. “It was difficult,” Mrs. Daugherty stated, “but totally worth it in the end.”
