Rod Stewart Spoofs ISIS Video - Immediately Regrets It

Rocker Rod Stewart made a terrible judgment call when he was playing around with friends and they enacted a mock ISIS-style execution. He made an even bigger mistake when he posted a video of the incident to Instagram. He's now apologizing for the video.

Stewart explained his actions to Britain's Daily Record. “From re-enacting the Beatles’ Abbey Road crossing to spontaneously playing out Game of Thrones, we were simply larking about pre-show,” he said. “Understandably, this has been misinterpreted and I send my deepest apologies to those who have been offended.”

Stewart was in the midst of a world tour. Stewart, his wife Penny Lancaster and the musician's entourage were playing on sand dunes outside of Abu Dhabi. Someone was filming as the party played in the sand. Lancaster rolled down a dune, others struggled to keep their balance at the peak.

A young unnamed man kneels in front of Stewart at one point. Stewart grabbed the man by the hair and mocked slicing his neck. Despite the claims that the pantomime was inspired by 'Game of Thrones', too many felt the setting and the action looked more like an ISIS murder film.

Lancaster posted the video to her Instagram account and criticism came pouring in.

Angry citizens of Britain aren't impressed with the explanation or apology, and are calling for Stewart to be un-knighted. 'Sir Roderick' was knighted only months ago by the Duke of Cambridge at Buckingham Palace, and his countrymen are calling for the honor to be withdrawn. At the time, the singer said he was ‘on cloud nine’.

Dragana Haines, widow of beheaded ISIS victim David Haines, called it a 'disgusting' and 'brainless' stunt.

Stewart hasn’t responded to any further criticism, but the video has been deleted from his wife’s Instagram account. Sadly, in the modern world, it’s not as easy to delete your mistakes. Copies of the video were splashed across media websites around the world, gaining even more attention.
