Robert De Niro Still Isn’t Okay With The Idea Of A Trump Presidency

A night that was supposed to be full of celebration took on a somber tone when one of the star attractions used the microphone to get some things off of her chest. While there were plenty of sights to see at the recent Golden Globes awards, all anyone could talk about was Meryl Streep’s decision to engage in a little Trump-bashing.

As Vanity Fair shares, at least one fellow celeb thought it was an absolute hoot, and he took the time to pen a letter to Streep expressing his admiration. Hollywood legend Robert DeNiro has made no secret of the fact that he’s not a fan of President-elect Trump, and he put pen to paper so that he could laud Streep for her actions.

“Meryl, What you said was great. It needed to be said, and you said it beautifully. I have so much respect for you that you did it while the world was celebrating your achievements,” he wrote.

Streep was being honored with the Cecil B. DeMille Award lifetime achievement award, but rather than soak in the accolades, she used the opportunity to share her thoughts on Trump.

“And this instinct to humiliate, when it’s modeled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, filters down into everybody’s life, because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing,” Streep said in part.
