Rob Schneider Pays The Price For Tweeting This

Representative John Lewis, legendary civil rights activist who helped plan the March on Washington, has made headlines when he announced he would be sitting out the inauguration of President Elect Donald Trump. A Hollywood star politely disagreed with Lewis's decision in a tweet, and the star has been slammed for 'whitesplaining' to the black leader.

Actor and comedian Rob Schneider sent a tweet on Martin Luther King Day to Lewis, stating, "Rep Lewis. You are a great person. But Dr. King didn't give in to his anger or his hurt. That is how he accomplished & won Civil Rights."

Schneider immediately got backlash from people, and the sentiment that white people are not allowed to disagree with Lewis, or have an opinion on King. Twitter jumped to Lewis's defense, calling Schneider's comment an embarrassment.

"Don't whitesplain MLK to the man who literally sat at the table with MLK," tweeted Oliver Willis, research fellow.

Schneider was a lifelong Democrat who switched parties when he realized California, with its Democratic super majority, is a mess.

The 'Hot Chick' star didn't directly address his critics, but posted a quote from New Jersey Senator Corey Booker: “Patriotism is a love of country. But you can’t love your country without loving your countrymen and countrywomen. We don’t always have to agree, but we must empower each other, we must find the common ground, we must build bridges across our differences to pursue the common good.”
