Restaurant Highlights Lack Of Transgendered Bathroom: Too Bad If You Don't Like It

One Oklahoma restaurant is causing a stir after management hung a controversial sign in the window. The restaurant wanted to make it abundantly clear what their transgender bathroom policy is: If customers don't like it, too bad.

The Oklahoma City establishment is a popular metro restaurant but a new sign has some locals annoyed. The owner of the Steak and Catfish Barn really doesn't care if people are offended; he's sticking to his guns.

Bob Warner had a sign put up in the restaurant that reads, "We do not have a transgender bathroom. So don't be caught in the wrong one."

Warner says it is not a threat. He tells News Channel 4 that it's a friendly warning; he's trying to avoid a fight. “We have a lot of redneck guys that come in here. Truck drivers and everything. They’re big husky guys and I said ‘man alive!’ If their wife or their little girl walked in that bathroom and a man followed them in there, I wouldn’t have a restaurant,” Warner said.

Warner only hopes to protect his property as well as his customers -
including the transgendered ones.

“I don’t want to see nobody hurt,” Warner said.

Paula Schonauer, a local transgender woman, says she's concerned about the bathroom sign. “I was disturbed... It was really a let down,” she said.

“You’ve got this sign implying a threat of potential violence against somebody for going to pee," said Troy Stevenson, with Freedom Oklahoma. "That’s not the Oklahoma standard. That’s not what it means to be American. That’s just wrong.”

Some argue that no one is being stopped or threatened for peeing; if they use the bathroom that matches the biology, they won't have a problem. Warner says that transgendered people are welcome at the restaurant, and to use the restrooms, as long as they're dressed appropriately.
