Records Discovered - Old Lawsuit Against Trump Could Come Back To Haunt Him

Very few people manage to live their lives without ever making a mistake, an error in judgement, or disregarding something that they shouldn’t have, and sometimes those sins of the past can come back to haunt you. Oftentimes, it’s not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things, but there are situations when those skeletons can be awfully frightening. We could see that play out in real time with President Donald Trump, as one of his old court cases just may reenter the spotlight.

As New York Daily News shares, long-lost court documents from a suit that Trump settled have apparently been found, and they could be on their way to being unsealed. The case revolved around the use of undocumented workers during the building of Trump Tower, and it was confidentially settled. If these documents become unsealed, it will no longer be confidential.

Time magazine and the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press have been seeking to have them released, and it sounds like they’re making some headway.

“Even though this class action was settled in 1999, there is substantial current public interest in knowing how it was resolved. . . While we don't know at this point exactly what is in the sealed documents, they should give the public much better insight into how this litigation was resolved,” reads a statement from the Committee read in part.

Translation: If this proves that Trump used undocumented workers on Trump Tower, we are going to play this for all that it’s worth. Trump has taken a hard-line stance on illegal immigration, and any implication that he was soft on it during his time in the private sector will be played to the hilt.

The matter came up during last year’s presidential campaign, and Trump was able to explain it away.

“I hire a contractor. The contractor then hires the subcontractor,” he said. “They have people. I don’t know. I don't remember, that was so many years ago, 35 years ago.”

He may not have as much success this time around, as indications that he settled a suit on use of undocumented workers to make it go away is a bad look. It looks even worse based on the tone that he has taken on immigration, as it comes across as double speak.

That being said, we’ll have to wait and see what the unsealed documents revealed. As anyone familiar with real estate development knows, projects of the magnitude of Trump Tower involve a massive amount of moving pieces. Is it possible one or several of the contractors on the tower used undocumented workers? Absolutely. Does that mean Trump is necessarily responsible for that? Of course not, but things travel uphill in these situations, and he’s at the top of the mountain as the developer.

How this all plays out is anyone’s guess, but you can bet it will be presented for as much dramatic effect as possible. As always, take the ‘bombshell’ with a gigantic grain of salt, as the mainstream media does not have the best track record with stories of that magnitude during the Trump era.
