Reality TV Chef Contestant Found Dead In His Philadelphia Home From Overdose

A contestant on Chef Gordon Ramsey's popular reality show, 'Hell's Kitchen', was found dead in his home on Thursday. The contestant was known for his bold personality.

Chef Paulie Giganti, originally from Brooklyn, New York, was found dead in his home. The reality star was only 36 years old. According to the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, they believe Giganti passed away from an accidental drug overdose.

“It is an accidental death by drug intoxication,” said spokesperson James Garrow, adding that '“office does not release the type of drug involved or whether it was a prescription drug.'

Giganti was part of the season16 cast of the fiery cooking competition. He had been working at Birra restaurant in Philadelphia. His signature dish was 'biscotti-encrusted scallops over a crispy polenta with a basil curry cream sauce', according to the series' web page.

Giganti said in previous interviews that he never originally planned on being a chef. He was studying to be an engineer when he decided to join the competition just to see how he stacked up.

“I never went to school for cooking. I was going to be an engineer. I just wanted to see how I stacked up against other guys, like ‘school-y’ guys and other people,” he said in an interview with MyTakeonTV.com. “I was basically doing it as a measuring stick on myself. I didn’t care about any preconceived fears and notions. I just wanted to see how I could cook against other trained chefs.”

Despite the fact that he wasn't a trained chef, the Morning Ledger reported he was one of his season's 'five chefs to watch out for'. Unfortunately, he didn’t win, but Giganti did earn respect making it to the final four.

Giganti adds, “I’ll look back on things with a smile. The whole experience was a good life experience... I was happy to do it, and it was cool.”
