Reality Show Dad Will Be Behind Bars For Decades After Sickening Crime

Toby Willis, former reality star on TLC's "The Willis Family," committed an unconscionable crime about 12 years ago. The bill has come due for his twisted actions. Willis has pleaded guilty to four counts of child rape, and the victim was reportedly a 9- to 12-year-old girl.

As TMZ shares, Willis is now going away for a long time. He has been sentenced to two 25-year sentences and two 40-year sentences which will run concurrently, and the earliest he will see the light of day is 2057. Willis family attorney Bill Speek released a statement on behalf of the family.

"The Willis family would like to thank their family, friends and fans for the outpouring of love and support during this most difficult year. Additionally, the Willis family would like to thank the many members of law enforcement for their detailed and comprehensive investigation of this matter,” the statement read in part. “Finally, the family would like to thank the District Attorney's office for their diligence and sensitivity in the handling of this case.”

The dad, Toby, wife Brenda Willis and their 12 children between the ages of 5 and 24-years-old, achieved notoriety after advancing to the quarter-finals of ‘America's Got Talent’ in 2014. They began performing Irish-inspired roots music as the Willis Clan in Chicago, and would subsequently move to Tennessee and evolve into a country music band.

The family would go on to star in the reality show the following year, but it was not picked up for a third season. That turned out to be a prudent decision on TLC’s part, as the charges against Willis were revealed soon thereafter. Willis was slated to be arrested in September after the investigation into the allegations was completed, but he took off. Authorities tracked him down in Greenville, Kentucky, where had hitchhiked to avoid arrest.

“Special agents from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations say they began investigating Willis late last month. We're told he was arrested Friday after the investigation revealed Willis had a sexual encounter approximately 12 years ago with an underage female,” TMZ reported at the time of the arrest. “Investigators say Willis was picked up in Kentucky after he fled law enforcement. He's been charged with one count of rape of a child and is being held without bond.”

Willis has been in the Cheatham County Jail ever since, and it doesn’t appear as if he has even a prayer of being released early. Cheatham County Circuit Court Clerk Julie Hibbs has ruled that the sentences are intended to be run concurrently and served in full.

“The family has remained fully cooperative throughout the investigation. Although the criminal case has concluded with Toby Willis receiving 40 years for the crimes he committed, the impact on the victims will remain much longer,” the family’s statement continued. “The family is appreciative and grateful that people have respected their need for privacy during this trying time and asks for continued respect as they seek to move forward."
