Protestors Saved By Unlikely People After Burning The American Flag

Brooklyn’s Fort Greene Park can be an interesting place on a summer night, and that was never more apparent than at a recent demonstration event that drew a crowd. According to the Daily News, a confrontation would even erupt between two rival protest groups.

A group that has christened themselves as ‘Disarm NYPD’ was organized to protest against racism and police brutality. They called attention to themselves on Facebook, and announced plans to burn an American flag at the park.

Those plans captured the attention of pro-flag supporters, who decided to mosey on down to the park as well.

"My nephew is graduating from the Marines in two weeks. I'll be damned if somebody burns the flag!" shared nearby resident Diane Atkins.

The Disarm NYPD group went forward with their plans, and proceeded to burn both a Confederate battle flag and an American flag in the middle of the park. That prompted the pro-flag supporters to snatch the flag away from them, while others on the pro-flag side chased them out of the park.

Some of the anti-flaggers with a larger resolve than those that ran from the park stayed behind to argue with the anti-flag group.

"They're like an angry mob! They're not critically thinking about what that flag represents! It represents genocide, imperialism, and oppression!" shared protester Amanda Meltzer.
