Protective Father Sacrifices Life Over Selfie
On May 2nd, Quinisha Johnson posted a provocative selfie on her Facebook page. Although, she had no idea how her husband would respond. She was at her job at Walgreens in Arlington, Texas when her husband Ricci Bradden stopped by. Bradden was outraged by the photo, saying she did it for attention. They publicly argued in front of the store. Johnson, 22, told WFAA:
“And I was trying to explain it to him that, ‘I married you. You’re all the attention that I needed.’ And I could feel that he was getting mad, so I tried to walk off, and that’s when I heard him pull the gun out.”
Bradden, a private with the 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, got a gun from his car and shot at his wife’s legs twice, striking her in the ankle once.
Anthony "T.J." Antell, 35, a CrossFit instructor and former Marine took notice. Antell had a concealed-carry permit. He told his wife to stay in the car as he grabbed his gun. He attempted to make a citizen's arrest. Unfortunately, Bradden could not disarm Antell, who shot the father-of-three right in front of his wife.
Bradden fled the scene, but later turned himself in after calling his army supervisors. He has been charged with murder and is being held on $500,000 bond.
Pastor Marc Lawrence told WFAA, “He went into a protective mode. He’s a father, protective by nature, and he thought he could help.” In addition, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help with funeral expenses and to support the family who just lost their father. It reads:
“The CrossFit community is very tight knit, and I would like for everyone to take this opportunity to be able to give back to someone who did so much for his members on a daily basis. If we rally together, we can show others just how thankful we are for T.J.”
Donations reached over $30,000 in 24 hours.
