Pro-Gun Protesters March Through Ferguson Missouri

Recently, pro-gun activists marched through the streets of Ferguson, Missouri carrying assault rifles and other firearms. Open carry has been legal statewide in Missouri since 2014 when a state vote passed a law that superseded any local restrictions.

They marched three blocks with their guns from a pavilion to the Ferguson Police Department, the site of the previous Black Lives Matter demonstrations. Sam Andrews, a former spokesperson of the Oath Keepers, organized the event. The right-wing group attended the Ferguson protests heavily armed.

St Louis County Police Chief Jon Belmar said in 2015 that the Oath Keepers' presence was both "unnecessary and inflamatory." Andrews has since split from the Oath Keepers but said that the protest was to support Second Amendment rights and to show that gun rights apply to people of all races.

The group said the Pledge of Allegiance before going on the march. Around a dozen protesters attended along with members of the media. Andrews told the St Louis Post-Dispatch "The police have so intimidated black people that they don't even believe they have rights."
