Princess Diana Made Shocking Revelation To Biographer About Why Her Marriage Failed

It’s hard to believe that it’s been 20 years since the passing of Princess Diana, who died in a tragic car accident back in 1997. It can be even harder to remember that there was a time when she was part of a happy Royal couple with her husband, Prince Charles, but the pair’s love fizzled out and they would divorce in 1996.

Questions have always been out there about what really happened behind the scenes, and Diana’s royal biographer, Andrew Morton, has offered up some fascinating insight.

As Yahoo shares, Morton is the author of the recently re-released book Diana: Her True Story - In Her Own Words, and he has included some transcripts of unfiltered conversations that he had with Diana while researching for the book.

She revealed that things started to fall apart after the birth of their second child, Prince Harry, but it wasn’t for the usual reasons you would suspect.

"Charles and I were very, very close to each other the six weeks before Harry was born, the closest we've ever, ever been and ever will be. Then, suddenly, as Harry was born, it just went bang, our marriage,” she recalled. “The whole thing went down the drain."

It’s pretty normal for a couple to experience some growing pains themselves as their family grows, and that can be a tricky stretch to navigate. However, Charles and Diana’s problems weren’t the result of shifting priorities or because one partner felt neglected, but rather because of a fairly startling reason.

"He wanted two children and he wanted a girl," she said. "Oh God, it's a boy...and he's even got red hair."

Luckily, Charles was able to see through his angst so that the naming of the children wasn’t too much of a struggle.

"The alternative was Arthur and Albert," Diana added. "No, thank you. There weren't fights over it. It was just a fait accompli."

As Charles got more and more distant, Diana knew something was seriously amiss. She finally put two and two together to find that her Royal husband was behaving like a royal creep behind her back.

"By then, I knew Charles had gone back to his lady," Diana continued. "There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded."

Diana was referring to Camilla Parker Bowles, with whom Charles had an extramarital affair. The marriage gradually dissolved, and the couple would officially separate in 1992.

The divorce was finalized in 1996, and it was a rather large scandal as divorces within Royal families are generally frowned upon.

That’s some pretty fascinating insight from Morton, and we can expect the book to be re-visited a ton as the 20th anniversary of Diana’s stunning death draws near. The dissolution of her marriage is just another sad chapter in a life that was cut way too short.

Tragically, she seemed to be finally on her way to true happiness just prior to the tragic car crash in Paris that claimed her life and shocked the world.
