President Trump's Ex-Wife Says He Didn't Know How To Talk To Their Kids

Ivana Trump, President Donald Trump's first wife, says in her new book that the current POTUS had a hard time talking to his children when they were little. In fact, it wasn't until they were in university that she says Trump started being able to relate to them. The former Mrs. Trump shares what it was like raising the president's first three children in 'Raising Trump'.

Ivana and Donald Trump were married in 1977 and went on to produce three children before their divorce in 1992. Donald Jr. was born in 1977, Ivanka was born in 1981, an Eric was born in 1984. According to Ivanka's new memoir about bringing up the famous Trump children, their father couldn't talk to them when they were young.

"He did not know how to speak the children's language. He was not able to do it until the kids were in university," the former Mrs. Trump told Joh Catsimatidis in an interview with 'The Answer' on talk radio.

It's easy to believe that child rearing was never the business mogul's job in the family. When the couple split after 16 years of marriage, Ivana told Mr. Trump that she would be taking charge of the kids.

“I told Donald, ‘There can only be one chef in the kitchen,'” the 68-year-old former fashion model. “And it was me.”

Ivana had a plan for raising the three kids. Despite the family's wealth and fame, she said she made it a priority to ensure they would not be spoiled. She says she wouldn't give them much money, and made sure to keep them busy.

"Because if you keep your kids busy they have no time to get in trouble," the mother of three explained.

“Ivanka had singing classes, piano classes, ballet classes. The boys had hockey classes, karate classes, skiing classes, golf classes, tennis classes. You try everything, and then you watch to see what the kids are good at…Ivanka, for example, she did not like the piano classes, so I cut them off. She did not enjoy it. And I know if you don’t enjoy what you’re doing, you can never be great at it.”

“I’m very proud of them and Donald should be too,” said Ivana.

Trump has always expressed great pride in all his children, from the three that he had with Ivana to his daughter Tiffany, a product of his marriage to Marla Maples, to Barron Trump, his youngest son whose mother is First Lady Melania Trump.

Even Hillary Clinton during an election debate has said that the one compliment she can pay Trump is that he's raised great kids.

“I respect his children," she said. "His children are incredibly able and devoted, and I think that says a lot about Donald.”

It seems it says a lot about Ivana as well, but Trump does take some credit for it. His kids have all praised him as being a good father, and insiders have always noted that Trump is a devoted parent and grandparent.
