President Obama Knows The Reason Some People Didn’t Agree With Him

As President Obama’s time in the White House comes to a close, there are many that are reflecting on his overall legacy - including the man himself. As CNN reports, Obama sat down for a wide-ranging interview that will be part of a network special devoted to his legacy, and he notes that race is a big part of it.

"I think there's a reason why attitudes about my presidency among whites in Northern states are very different from whites in Southern states. Are there folks whose primary concern about me has been that I seem foreign, the other? Are those who champion the 'birther' movement feeding off of bias? Absolutely," Obama said.

Obama’s not the only one that feels race has been a gigantic issue throughout his tenure, but there are differing opinions as to how that impacted his ability to govern effectively. In fact, many feel that he was part of the problem in expanding the racial divide across the nation. Others see things differently, and think that’s a reflection of attitudes towards the man in charge.

"It's indisputable that there was a ferocity to the opposition and a lack of respect to him that was a function of race," according to David Axelrod, a former senior adviser to Obama and current CNN commentator.
