Police Warn Parents To Double Check Halloween Candy

With Halloween around the corner, the police department in Jackson, Mississippi is taking the proactive approach by posting a warning about ecstasy pills that are made to look like candy. Police say the pills can have pictures of superheroes on them, or be shaped like dominoes.

The Jackson Police Department wrote on its Facebook page “If your kids get these for Halloween candy, they ARE NOT CANDY!!! They are the new shapes of 'Ecstasy' and can kill kids through overdoses!!! So, check your kid's candy and 'When in doubt, Throw it out!!!' Be safe and always keep the shiny side up!”

They did add that they have yet to see cases of children receiving or taking the pills. Although officers have detained adults who have them. In Louisville, Kentucky, a man was arrested and found carrying drugs with Disney characters on the pills in September.

Porsha Tate, a mother of three, said, “I really truly believe somebody would do that." A Doctor at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis said, “We haven't seen that here at Le Bonheur. It goes back to when I was a kid. Everybody worried about that sort of thing, and I think parents have to remain vigilant."
