Police Investigate Mother Who Asks Odd Question Right After Son's Death

On July 18, Stephanie Castillo of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, drove her 2-month-old son Leo to Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, Minnesota. After 40 minutes, her son was dead.

Investigators soon became suspicious when the 42-year-old woman asked how soon death benefits would be paid to her. Doctors also noted that Castillo had become "unusually upset" when she heard an autopsy would be performed on her son.

As a result, Eden Prairie police issued a search warrant on the blue minivan that Castillo used to bring Leo to the hospital.

In January, Castillo was charged with eight counts of embezzlement. The total amount stolen was $1.3 million. She allegedly stole the money from the property management company of which she was vice president. Her accusers say she has a shopping addiction, and her husband has a business in Mexico.

Investigators said she had been forging checks and logging fake invoices since 2009. So far, no charges have been filed concerning her son's death, and the autopsy has not yet been completed.
