Police Investigate Home After 3 Kids Missing From School For Months, Then They See The Pile Of Toys

Three Pennsylvania children hadn't shown up to school for months, so police and Children and Youth Service agents went to the home to investigate. When they arrived, they could immediately tell something was terribly wrong. They found the kids living in a situation of horrific abuse.

Joshua Ross Weyant, 33, and his wife, Brandi Jene Weyant, 28, were arrested when three children were found in their home on the brink of starvation. Two girls, ages four and five, and a boy, age six, were extremely emaciated, covered in lice, bruises, urine, feces, and dirt. According to doctors, the children would have probably died within days had they not been found.

The six-year-old boy weighed a shocking 27 lbs., while the girls weighed in at 23 and 26 lbs. They'd been starved for months, given extremely little food, and had not been allowed to leave the house. One of the children was in such bad shape she couldn't process solid food, while one girl's internal organs had gotten tangled because there was no fat to hold them in place inside her body.

"The victims were infested with lice so severe that the children screamed when the lice were physically removed from their bodies by medical personnel and investigators,” said police to PennLive.

The Weyants are not the parents of the three children, though it is unclear why the kids were there. According to reports, the children were in their care when Joshua decided he didn't feel like caring for them anymore. The children were then locked in a room and neglected.

Brandi claims she was not complicit in the neglect or abuse, and that she would sneak snacks to the kids. Police believe that Brandi was an accomplice, however.

The Weyants are each being held in jail on a million-dollar bail. The children are in the care of Children and Youth Services.
