Police Can’t Believe What They Found Inside This Truck - You Won’t Either

According to various US government statistics, counterfeit goods imported in to the US is estimated as an around $500 billion per year business. Counterfeit goods brought in to this country today run the gamut from clothing, purses, and shoes, to bicycles, pharmaceuticals and laundry detergent. Yes, you read correctly…counterfeiters in Mexico and other third world countries are manufacturing cheap knockoff laundry detergent, labeling it as the product of a major manufacturer, and selling it online for shipment to the United States.

According to a recent ABC News report, the LA County Sheriff’s Department busted a gang of counterfeiters based in Mexico that was peddling fake laundry detergent.

Authorities across the globe made a big push in 2016 to try and eliminate large scale detergent fraud. Over the last 12 months, consumer industry titan Procter & Gamble (the owner of well-known brands such as Gain and Tide) has worked with local law enforcement to identify and close 50 factories that were making the cheap, weak laundry detergent and falsely labeling their product.

In most cases, the fake detergent appears perfectly legit as far as the packaging, but if the counterfeiters try to sell the goods in five gallon buckets that is a tipoff to look at the shipment more closely.

Keep in mind that manufacturers do not sell laundry detergent in large quantities like that to consumers, but deals for five-gallon buckets of detergent are frequently seen online today. The laundry detergent in the buckets has some of the characteristics of a detergent, including smell and appearance, but the product does not have anywhere near the cleaning power because of a high water content.

Procter & Gamble and other global detergent manufacturers are losing many millions of dollars every year due to counterfeiters, so all leads or suspicions regarding counterfeit products are always passed on to law enforcement in the local jurisdiction as soon as possible.
