Police Arrest Slaughterhouse Owner After They Discover His Dark Secrets

Two New York men running a slaughterhouse in New Jersey have been arrested and charged with human trafficking. Undocumented immigrants were found living in a shed behind the slaughterhouse.

Mohammad Abdul Wahid and Mohammed Iqbal Kabir were allegedly forcing employment of unauthorized immigrants at the Perth Amboy business 'American Halal Live Poultry.’ The workers complained, and when they complained the owners threatened to turn them in to authorities.

The undocumented workers were paid about $290 per week in cash for a 70- to 100-hour work week, which breaks down to about $3 to $4 per hour. The owners also deducted $40 per week for 'boarding' in a shed on the property. The shed had no heat, no water and a makeshift kitchen outside.

The business had been shut down due to multiple health violations. An inspector discovered the undocumented workers living there.
