Passengers Don't Know What Happened After Starts Screaming That Her Baby Died On The Bus

A mother accused of staging the death of her infant girl on a bus to try and cover up the major abuse of the child sent her sister a text saying “Imani is dead sis x”, according to testimony heard in court this week.

25-year-old Rosalin Baker hatched the plan with her older boyfriend, Jeffrey Wiltshire, 52, She then boarded the bus in Stratford, east London, holding the abused body of their 16-week-old daughter, Imani, prosecutors claim.

Baker then acted out a “nightmare” charade, asking passengers for assistance, claiming her baby had fallen ill.

According to prosecutors, the baby Imani (who was born premature) was actually already dead having suffered at least three attacks and likely thrown to hard to the floor.

Prosecutor Duncan Atkinson QC commented: “During the course of the bus journey, Baker suddenly sought help from her fellow passengers for a problem that she said she had just identified with her daughter.

“Those members of the public…were panicking and distressed. In contrast, Baker was noted to be cold and calm.

Atkinson continued: “As those members of the public, and then paramedics, sought to help her child, Baker sat to one side and sought to contact first her sister and then Wiltshire.”

Call records indicate Baker sent her sister a text: “Imani is dead sis x”.

Baker and Wiltshire went on to lie to police, even trying to claim Wiltshire was not the father.

Medical experts determined the infant had a broken wrist and close to 40 rib fractures. Imani also suffered a fractured skull and brain injury “as the result of being thrown against the floor or an upright surface” which was the injury that killed her.

In the few days prior to Imani’s death, Baker moved in with Wiltshire in east London, after she moved out of her mother’s home in Colchester.

Atkinson remarked that the “only realistic candidates” for Imani’s death were Wiltshire and Baker. He argued that they were both responsible for the fatal injury, or that at least one of the two had not intervened and contacted authorities.
