Parents Think Man is Going to Kidnap Baby, Others Say It's a Misunderstanding

As parents, it’s perfectly normal to feel overprotective of your children. While it’s nice to think of the world as a lovely place that welcomes you with a warm hug each and every day, the reality is that the world is full of danger. For parents, that translates into a mindset in which they find that being cautious is the wiser choice more often than not.

As AWM shares, an example of that recently played out at a Dunkin’ Donuts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Surveillance footage shows a family waiting to pay at the cashier. They have a baby in the stroller, so they’re simply looking to pay and go on with their day - but they would wind up being delayed.

All of a sudden, a strange man approaches them and it appears that he’s about to snag the baby out of the stroller. The mother hurriedly wheels the stroller out of the store to safety, and the father stays behind to have some strong words with the strange man. The father took off as well before anyone could call 911, but the cops would end up taking the extraordinary step of releasing the surveillance footage to the public.

Since then, a debate has been raging about what the strange man was attempting to do.

“The guy wasn’t trying to steal the baby. He’s a regular customer and he has some mental issues. I think he was just trying to look at the baby,” shared one user.

“As a mother I would not want a stranger just walking up to my child like that bit I also would not have my child behind me. I dont even want my 11 year old walking behind me. I know the parents reacted the way they did because they left the child behind them and when they looked back a stranger was touching their child,” added another.

We’ll likely never know, but it’s hard to fault the parents for reacting as they did. It’s startling and off putting to have a stranger approach your children, and protective reflexes automatically kick in from that point.
