Parents Say Goodbye to Their Ill Daughter When Something Miraculous Happens

Francesca and Lee Moore-Williams were on vacation in Gran Canaria, one of Spain's Canary Islands, with their 18-month-old daughter, Bella, and son. Yet, they knew something was terribly wrong when Bella started to lose large amounts of hair.

They decided to return to the UK. They had to rush Bella to the hospital where doctors found her "critically ill" with an MRI that revealed “abnormalities across both sides of her brain.” As Bella was put on life support, the medical staff told her parents she didn't have much longer to live. So, the family had to make the heartbreaking decision to sign a do-not-resuscitate order and say their final goodbyes.

On July 21, the family took a final family picture with their daughter hooked up to the life support system. Francesca said, “I just kept sitting there thinking, ‘Why us.’ It was heart wrenching. I will never, ever forget that moment where I had to say goodbye to my daughter.”

Her husband, Lee, added, “I was holding her hand knowing there was going to be a little last breath. I could feel her hand dropping and it went down but then she started gripping my finger. She started moving on her own and then her machine started going off.”

Only 30 minutes after the machine was turned off, Bella's vitals began to improve with her oxygen levels reaching 100 percent. Doctors then told the parents that their daughter would survive.

Later, Bella was diagnosed with the disorder Biotinidase deficiency, which only affects about 1 in 60,000 children. It is a biotin deficiency that is necessary for healthy cell growth. If untreated for long enough, the disorder can be fatal. Although a simple pill is all that is needed to treat it.

Bella's hair is now growing back and she is able to walk. She is several months behind, developmentally, but everyone is sure she will catch up. The best part is the family got to bring Bella home just before Christmas.

Francesca said, “She made our family complete and … it’s great to see how well she is doing. When she says ‘mama’ it melts my heart.”
