Parents Notice Daughter's Strange Drawings, Get Chills After Realizing What She's Telling Them

The parents of a five-year-old girl from Brazil, were heartbroken when they discovered a series of drawing detailing the horrifying abuse of power and sexual abuse of a local priest, Father Joao da Silva. The fifty-four-year-old priest taught English to children in Mina Gerais, where the assault of the young girl took place. When the young girl suddenly refused to attend these classes, becoming distraught and terrified at the prospect of attending, her parents were so concerned that they took their daughter to a child psychologist.

The psychologist immediately suspected that the young girl had suffered from some form of sexual abuse and urged her parents to search her room for any possible signs the abuse had occurred. What they found was a series of horrifying, disturbing sketches of abuse and pedophilia. One of the sickening pictures showed a man looming over a young girl, forcing himself between her legs. Another image showed a young girl expressing sheer terror and pain while a man loomed above her with an erect penis.

Upon discovering the images, the victim’s father confronted the priest, who then confessed to the sickening crime. The priest was taken into custody over the sexual abuse allegations however it is unclear whether he was charged. This incident reignited people’s anger and disgust at the thousands of allegations against the church concerning child abuse. In America, a repulsive string of sexual abuse allegations against priests, cardinals and pastors and subsequent cover-ups revealed in 2002 prompted nation-wide outrage and further investigation. In the years since this incident, the true extent of the misuse of religious authority and sexual abuse against children by the Catholic Church has come to light. The legal repercussions of Mr. Silva’s actions remain uncertain, however, the international attention the tragic story has attracted make it unlikely that the disturbed priest will harm anyone else.
