O'Reilly Booted From Fox, Murdoch's Sons' Wives May Have Been The Reason

Just when Bill O'Reilly thought he was too valuable to Fox News for his job to be in danger amid accusations of sexual harassment, he was ousted. The shocking termination occurred after more than 50 major sponsors pulled out of the show, but some say that isn't what tipped the scales against O'Reilly.

The long-time conservative talk show host found himself in hot water last month when it was revealed that he quietly settled with several female coworkers who had charged him with sexual harassment. Settlements were in the area of $13 million in total, though O'Reilly denied the charges.

O'Reilly seemed to think he was safe. His show, 'The O'Reilly Factor', has been on the air for 20 years, and was the top-rated cable news show for 60 consecutive quarters. Fox initially appeared to be standing by O'Reilly, renewing the talk show host and author's contract amidst the bombshell allegations.

Lachlan Murdoch, co-chairman of Fox News Channel parent, 21st Century Fox and son of Fox News founder Rupert Murdoch, initially was in O'Reilly's corner. O'Reilly and Rupert had long been friends, and Lachlan was one of the executives who helped settle the harassment charges, with Fox chipping in millions for the settlements.

But Lachlan had a change of heart, and O'Reilly was given the boot. Some credit this to Sarah Murdoch, Lachlan's wife, and Kathryn Murdoch, wife of his brother James Murdoch.

The Murdoch wives are known to politically lean progressive. Sarah is a British-born Australian who is best known for hosting "Australia's Next Top Model."
On election night, when President Donald Trump won, Kathryn tweeted, “I can’t believe this is happening. I am so ashamed.”
Sarah and Kathryn were reportedly furious with the O'Reilly scandal. A Fox News Executive told the New York Daily News, "These women have unique access and complete trust (of Lachlan and James)."

Fox News or its parent company has not confirmed on whether there is any truth behind the claim.
