Onlookers Horrified As School Bus Drags Student Down Street

Chelsea Klepzig is a first grader who was accidentally trapped in a school bus door and dragged for almost a mile. The substitute driver only noticed Chelsea when he arrived at the next stop in Forsyth County, North Carolina.

Thankfully, the six-year-old only received minor injuries, although, her sneakers were ripped apart as her feet dragged on the ground. Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools said in a statement that they are "so thankful the student is OK and it was not worse."

Chelsea was returning home from Union Cross Elementary School on Monday with the unfathomable incident took place. Her grandmother was waiting at the Stonington Way Court bus stop in Kernsville to pick her up.

Estrella Klepzig chased after the bus and flashed her lights when she noticed her granddaughter. At the Pine Meadow Court stop, the doors finally opened, letting Chelsea fall to the ground. Students on the bus also allegedly witnessed the unreal accident.

Her father, John Klepzig, said, "It scared me. I didn't know how to react to it. Just to realize what had happened to her, it just tore me up."

Officials from Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools sent letters to parents of children on the bus to inform them of the incident.

The driver, who has not been named, worked for the school system for 15 years before the accident. Currently, he is suspended without pay and was recommended for dismissal.
