One Woman Requests Offensive Purple Parking Spot Be Removed, But It Isn’t Going Anywhere

Warren Municipal Court wanted to honor their local veterans so they painted their parking lot. Now those who park outside the Ohio courthouse have a special spot that is painted purple for veterans who were wounded in combat.

“For the city to recognize veterans by putting out a parking spot for the combat wounded, you know, combat wounded, they should hold a special place in everyone’s heart,” said Herman Breuer, director of the Trumbull County Veteran Services Network. “They spilled blood for our country.”

He believes it is the first parking spot of its kind to exist in the entire state of Ohio.

“They’d be proud to park here,” he said. “Fills your heart up.”

City officials say there will be more to come and that eventually there will be one at every building in the city.

“We’ll have one at every single building that’s used. So right now, City Hall will have one, the new government services building, the old Gibson building will have one, along with Packard Music Hall,” said Warren Mayor Doug Franklin.

This comes a few weeks after the unveiling of a $1.5 million building that will bring all of the county’s veterans agencies under one roof.

“They’re finishing up the last details as we speak,” said Breurer. “We’re hoping to have the keys to the building pretty shortly.”
