Oklahoma Couple Each Sentenced To 130 Years For Horrific Case Of Child Neglect

Some people have absolutely no business being parents. We’re all guilty of having such thoughts cross our mind, despite the fact that judging from afar is always a dangerous game to play.

The thought may come to pass when we see an unruly child out in public, or it could come up when we encounter a disrespectful child whose parents apparently allow them to do as they please without fear of retribution. Sometimes, the thought is spot on, while other times it’s simply a case of not having a complete picture of the situation at hand.

Then there are the times that there’s no mistaking the thought. This disturbing story fits the bill in that regard. As Yahoo shares, a couple from Oklahoma has been sentenced to a staggering 130 years behind bars - each.

What on earth could they possibly have done to have the book thrown at them so hard? According to authorities attached to the case, the couple was responsible for the worst case of child neglect that they have ever seen.

Aislyn Miller, 24, and Kevin Fowler, 25, were arrested shortly after bringing their 9-month-old daughters in for an urgent care visit. The girls were found to weigh just eight pounds each, and that certainly piqued some interest in what was going on. Investigators would arrive at the couple’s home to check it out, and their stomachs were turned upside down at what they discovered.

“It’s what we would term as shocking and heinous,” noted DHS investigator Kristi Simpson while testifying in court.

The living conditions at the couple’s home were reminiscent of something you may see in an incredibly warped movie. The walls were covered with cat feces, and the girls' playpen was infested with maggots.

As for the children, they resembled skeletons. They were both suffering from severe diaper rash and bed sores, and one of the girls was found to have an infected hand. It was infected because there was a hair wrapped around her finger that had never been removed.

The children were immediately removed from their parents' custody, and reports indicate that they’re doing much better now. As for the parents, they would head to trial. They didn’t have much of a defense.

Authorities would testify that the couple indicated they felt overwhelmed by having to work full time while raising children on their own. They were convicted and found guilty of five counts of child neglect, and they’ve been sentenced to 130 years apiece.

The babies' grandparents also have charges pending on counts of child neglect, so it makes it all the more unsettling that the couple claims that they had no outside help. Regardless, there is no justification for the way that their own children were treated. Thankfully, those children have been removed from that harmful environment, and they will have a better shot at the game of life as a result.

The couple will now have a very long time to come to terms with a simple fact: some folks have no business being parents.
