As O.J. Simpson's Parole Hearing Approaches, Analysts Look Ahead To The Possible Future

There’s been a ton of talk about how OJ Simpson may be sprung free before the end of the year, and we now have some clarity on when that may happen. A hearing has been scheduled for July 20 with the Nevada Board of Corrections, and it’s possible that Simpson could be granted his release. As the Daily Mail shares, some of Simpson’s closest friends have offered up some thoughts on what The Juice may do if he finds himself on the loose.

Tom Scotto is a friend of Simpson’s, and he spoke about his pending release during an interview with ABC’s 'Good Morning America'.

“He wants to keep a low profile. Be with his kids, be with his family, play golf is one of his main things,” he said. “He's hopeful he's not going to try to retry the case. He's done a lot of positive things in prison.”

Interestingly, Simpson was actually in Las Vegas to attend Scotto’s wedding back in 2007 when he got himself into trouble. He was accused of robbing a memorabilia dealer at gunpoint in a bid to get some of his stuff back, and that dealer didn’t hesitate to contact the cops. Simpson was eventually found guilty, and the sentencing judge threw the book at him. Some observers viewed that as payback for Simpson being found not guilty for the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman during the so-called Trial of the Century.

Simpson was sentenced to 33 years in prison, and he’s been taking up residence at the Lovelock Correctional Facility in Nevada ever since. Reports indicate that he’s been a model inmate. That will bolster his case for an early release, but another friend worries that the lingering stink over him getting off scot-free for the alleged murder of his ex-wife and Goldman will still loom large in this decision.

“O.J. has always been an upbeat guy. I just don’t think [being in prison] is going to set him back,” noted Simpson’s childhood friend, Joe Bell, during an interview last year. “I’m not optimistic. I know parole boards. They’re going to insist that he killed Nicole, even though they’re not supposed to consider that. But they do.”

At the time of the robbery, Simpson professed his innocence during a subsequent interview.

“I'm O. J. Simpson. How am I going to think that I'm going to rob somebody and get away with it? You've got to understand, this ain't somebody going to steal somebody's drugs or something like that. This is somebody going to get his private [belongings] back. That's it. That's not robbery,” he said. “Besides, I thought what happens in Las Vegas stays in Las Vegas.”

While friends indicate that Simpson will keep a low profile if he’s granted his release, you can be sure that producers and publishing houses will be chomping at the bit in an attempt to cash in if he hits the streets. A media frenzy will ensue, and whoever scores the first interview with him is in for a massive amount of attention. As such, The Juice would be paid handsomely for it, and that may prove too hard for him to resist.
