O.J. Simpson Furious That Ron Goldman's Family Trying To Block Him From Profiting From Interviews

O.J. Simpson may be out of prison, but it doesn't mean life is going to get any easier for him. The 70-year-old fallen sports hero has been practically financially ruined due to his legal troubles over the years and his tarnished reputation. He had hoped to make money with post-prison interviews, but the family of Ron Goldman, a man he was accused of killing, isn't going to let that happen.

O.J. Simpson was acquitted of murdering his estranged wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend, Ron Goldman, back in 1994. Many believe that politics, racial tensions and over-the-top antics by his lawyers resulted in the acquittal, despite the fact that many people believe he actually committed the murder.

Simpson was later found responsible for the deaths of Nicole and Goldman at a much tamer a civil trial filed against him by the families. Because of double-jeopardy laws, O.J. could not be tried for federal charges again, but in being held responsible for the deaths he was ordered to pay $25 million in punitive damages to the Goldman and Brown families.

Despite the fact that he may have gotten away with murder, Simpson got himself in trouble again when he orchestrated an armed robbery to retrieve what he believed was stolen sports memorabilia from his collection. In 2008, he was sentenced to 33 years, and was just released last week on parole.

Simpson thought he was going to make money from interviews when he got out of prison. Reports swirled that he hoped to get upwards of $5 million for breaking his silence about his ordeal. But that dream was quickly shot down by the Goldman family. They already filed a motion to demand the former NFL star disclose any attempts to 'monetize himself'.

Mr. Goldman and his family are 'concerned that Mr. Simpson or others on his behalf are shopping a potential entertainment, interview, or similar platform through the media'.

Simpson, who grew to love life as a wealthy man before being accused of murder in 1994, claims to have only one source of income: his NFL pension of $100,000 per year. He also has a $1.8 million home.

Simpson's legal team claims that the filing is 'frivolous' and that Mr. Simpson had no intention of seeking to profit from interviews, nor was he interested in conducting any.

"But you know, it's more publicity for them to do. There'll be another hearing on this November 7 so they're doing their thing," said Simpson about the Goldmans.

"They've been saying the same things about him for 27 years, so nothing that the Goldmans say upsets him. We've talked about it," said Simpson's attorney.

It wouldn’t be the first time that Simpson attempted to cash in on his notoriety. While in prison, he worked with a ghostwriter to write the book, “If I Did It,” which outlined how he would have committed the murders of Goldman and Brown-Simpson. The Goldmans immediately fought and won a lawsuit to receive all rights to the book. They renamed it, “If I Did It: Confessions of The Killer.”
