Officials Issue Warning After Catching Man Planting This On Trails

The FBI shot and killed a man they had detained when he attempted to flee. Agents brought the man to the woods where he had planted explosive devices and demanded he point out the dangerous booby traps.

Mark Sawaf, 39, was caught by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Fire Arms planting bombs on a woody mountain in Kentucky. The bombs were planted in cameras. Some were set to explode when the camera batteries were changed, while others were rigged with trip wires, according to an ATF press release.

At least one person was injured, losing several fingers, after a bomb exploded. The ATF notified the FBI, and FBI agents raided Sawaf's home. Inside, they found incriminating evidence such as cameras rigged with explosives, camera parts and bomb-making equipment.

The FBI ordered Sawaf to lead them into the woods to point out bombs he'd left in the area, but once out there the suspect attempted an escape. He was shot and killed in the attempt.

The ATF warns that there may still be live explosive devices in Harlan County, Kentucky and urges caution. If citizens find cameras or suspicious looking bombs, they're asked to notify the local police.
